Advanced Sail Handling
The advanced sail handling course trains participants to use sails in a wider range of angles to the wind, and in different wind strengths. The structure of the rigging enables use of the sails mostly in headwinds – up to 45 degrees and tailwinds – up to 160 degrees. In the course we’ll learn to sail at 270 degrees (!) out of 360, and at wind strengths from 6 knots and up to…
Syllabus
The course will cover types of sails and cordage, including symmetrical and asymmetrical sails, working with a spinnaker sleeve, top-down furler, when they are needed and how to use them. Matching the sails and cordage to the intended purpose and preparing the vessel accordingly. Navigating with sails, anchoring using sails, emergencies, and access using sails.
**In the spirit of the Center for Advanced Sailing Courses, the operation of vessels will be single handed-oriented.
